Affinity for U

group concept

Affinity for U is a designated “safe space,” where undergraduate and graduate students, PhD candidates, URM faculty and staff, as well as anybody else who is interested will be invited to self-identified groups meet to share commonalities of their group. This identity can be based on race, gender, sexual orientation, language, nationality, physical/mental ability, socio-economic class, family structure, religion, etc.

Affinity groups can be a place for underrepresented people in a community to come together to feel less isolated and more connected. During affinity groups folks might share and talk about their experiences or focus on working towards a particular mission or goal, which can have a powerful influence in their education and pathways.
