ADOS-2 Trainings at MIDB

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd edition (ADOS-2) is a measure used for assessing and diagnosing autism across ages, developmental levels, and language levels. ADOS-2 trainings are appropriate for clinical and school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, educational specialists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, social workers, behavior analysts, and other clinicians/researchers working in autism assessment.

Prior to attending training, you will need to have access to ADOS-2 protocols. We also recommend having access to an ADOS-2 manual. ADOS-2 manuals and protocols are available through Western Psychological Services at 1-800-648-8857 or via their website. Educational discounts on ADOS-2 materials are available for research use and use in training. Authors of the ADOS-2 receive royalties when people purchase these materials.

ADOS-2 Primer

Description

This presentation is recommended for providers and educators with assessment experience who are considering being formally trained on the ADOS-2. This presentation provides an overview of the ADOS-2, including what administration looks like, how the measure is used and interpreted, and the next steps for completing the formal training and using it in practice.

This training is a brief overview of the ADOS-2 and is not equivalent to the ADOS-2 Introductory Training, which is required for use of the ADOS-2. No CE credits provided.

ADOS-2 Introductory Training

  • Wednesday, October 21, 2026 - Thursday, October 22, 2026 (University of Minnesota, Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain)

Description

This 2-day Introductory Training on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) is an introductory workshop with instructional methods that include lectures and video demonstrations to introduce the basic principles of administering and scoring Modules 1 through 4 and is an essential first step toward competence in using the measure. This training is required for anyone planning to use the ADOS-2 in clinical or school settings and is a prerequisite for more in-depth training to use the ADOS-2 for research purposes. The goals of this workshop are to provide a detailed overview of the ADOS-2, its development, its psychometric properties, and appropriate use and interpretation. 

Registration fee: $600.00

Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree or higher; currently in an occupational role where the ADOS-2 falls within your professional scope. Trainees will be notified if it is determined that these prerequisites are not met.

This training assumes experience with child assessment and differentiating autism from other diagnoses. If you want more training in this area before taking the ADOS-2 training, we recommend the Introduction to ASD workshop and the Differential Diagnosis workshop offered through the Global Autism Interactive Network (GAIN).

ADOS-2 Toddler Module Introductory Training

  • Friday, October 23, 2026 (University of Minnesota, Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain)

Description

The ADOS-2 Toddler Introductory Training is an introductory workshop on the ADOS-2 Toddler Module, which is an assessment tool for children ages 12-30 months who are not yet speaking in phrases. It includes lectures and video demonstrations to introduce the basic principles of administering and scoring the Toddler Module. This workshop is a prerequisite for more thorough training required to use the Toddler ADOS-2 for research purposes. All trainees are expected to have prior training in modules 1-4 of the ADOS / ADOS-2.

Registration fee: $300.00

Prerequisites: Prior training in modules 1 - 4 of the ADOS / ADOS-2 (e.g. attendance at an ADOS or ADOS-2 Introductory and/or Research Workshop).

This training assumes experience with child assessment and differentiating autism from other diagnoses.  If you want more training in this area before taking the ADOS-2 training, we recommend the Introduction to ASD workshop and the Differential Diagnosis workshop offered through the Global Autism Interactive Network (GAIN).

ADOS-2 Refresher Training

  • Thursday, October 29, 2026, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (Online – Module 1) 
  • Friday, November 6, 2026, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (Online – Module 3)

Description

This training is designed for individuals who have already completed the ADOS or ADOS-2 Introductory Training (Modules 1-4) and are interested in further practice and review. During this half-day training, a full length ADOS-2 video demonstration will be viewed and the scoring of this administration will be discussed. There will also be an opportunity to review specific administration and scoring questions from participants.

ADOS-2 Booster Training for International Trainers

Description

You MUST be a trainer to register for this course. This training session is for international trainers on the ADOS/ADOS-2. The workshop will include information on the current development status of the ADOS-3, as well as opportunities to watch videos and consensus code.

ADOS-2 Advanced Training

Description

This is a 2.5-day ADOS-2 Advanced Training for specialists in autism that offers detailed, advanced training for people who plan to use the ADOS-2 for research purposes or want to further their clinical skills. The goals of this workshop are to provide hands-on experience in administering the ADOS-2, detailed instruction and practice with coding, and information on appropriate use and interpretation in research. With guidance from an experienced ADOS-2 trainer, trainees will administer parts of the ADOS- 2 to child and adult volunteers with autism. Detailed discussions on scoring of the ADOS-2 follow each practice administration. Instructions on next steps for achieving research reliability are provided.

There is an option to submit post-course reliability checks within a year of the workshop for $600.00 per video.

Registration fee: $2500.00

Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree or higher and completion of ADOS-2 Introductory Training Workshop. Trainees will be notified if it is determined that these prerequisites are not met.

ADI-R Trainings at MIDB

The Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) is a widely used, standardized assessment tool for establishing autism diagnoses. The comprehensive interview, which can be administered in person or via telehealth using videoconferencing, allows clinicians and researchers to collect valuable information about an individual’s behaviors and developmental history to aid in the diagnosis of autism.

ADI-R trainings are appropriate for those with clinical interviewing experience, including clinical and school psychologists, social workers, educational specialists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, behavior analysts, and other clinicians/researchers working in autism assessment.

Prior to attending training, you will need to have access to ADI-R protocols. We also recommend having access to an ADI-R manual.
