ADOS-2 Primer

Description
This presentation is intended to provide an overview of the ADOS-2, including what administration looks like, how the measure is used and interpreted, and the next steps for completing the formal training and using it in practice. This presentation is recommended for providers and educators with assessment experience who are considering being formally trained on the ADOS-2.
This training is intended to provide a brief overview of the ADOS and is not equivalent to certification on the measure. No CE credits provided.

ADOS-2 Introductory Training

Tuesday, October 21 - Thursday, October 23, 2025 (University of Minnesota, Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain)
Description
The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities is offering a 3-day Introductory Training on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2). The ADOS-2 is a measure used for assessing and diagnosing autism across ages, developmental levels, and language levels. This is an introductory workshop with instructional methods that include lectures, videos, demonstrations of administration and scoring, and discussions. This workshop is designed for researchers and clinicians with prior background in autism spectrum disorder and formal testing, including speech-language pathologists, physicians, psychologists, school-based autism specialists, and occupational therapists. This training is necessary for anyone planning to use the ADOS-2 in clinical or school settings and serves as a prerequisite for more in depth training required to obtain research reliability in order to use the ADOS-2 for research purposes. The goals of this workshop are to provide a detailed overview of the ADOS-2, its development, its psychometric properties, and appropriate use and interpretation. Trainees will be provided with videos of other ADOS-2 administrations to watch after the training to supplement the workshop.
By the end of the training, you will have all the info you need in order to administer and score the ADOS-2, but the workshop alone is not sufficient preparation for clinical use. Additional practice is needed to achieve a standardized administration and scoring and you need to be able to give it without the manual in front of you. Tips on how to practice will be provided during the training, but this measure is most appropriate if you will be administering it at least a couple times per month. No additional training is required, but practice is needed.
Registration fee: $750.00
Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree or higher and relevant work experience and current occupational role. Trainees will be notified if it is determined that these prerequisites are not met.
This training assumes experience with child assessment and differentiating autism from other diagnoses. If you want more training in this area before taking the ADOS-2 training, we recommend the Introduction to ASD workshop and the Differential Diagnosis workshop offered through the Global Autism Interactive Network (GAIN).

ADOS-2 Toddler Module Introductory Training

The University of Minnesota’s Autism Training Program is offering an introductory workshop specific to the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Ed. (ADOS-2) Toddler Module with instructional methods that include lectures, videos, practice with scoring, and discussions. This workshop is designed for researchers and clinicians with prior background in autism spectrum disorder and formal testing, such as speech‐language pathologists, physicians, psychologists, special education ASD specialists, and occupational therapists. This workshop serves as a prerequisite for more thorough training required to obtain research reliability needed to use the Toddler ADOS-2 for research purposes. All trainees are expected to have prior training in modules 1-4 of the ADOS / ADOS-2.
Registration fee: $300.00
Prerequisites: Prior training in modules 1 - 4 of the ADOS / ADOS-2 (e.g. attendance at an ADOS or ADOS-2 Introductory and/or Research Workshop).
This training assumes experience with child assessment and differentiating autism from other diagnoses. If you want more training in this area before taking the ADOS-2 training, we recommend the Introduction to ASD workshop and the Differential Diagnosis workshop offered through the Global Autism Interactive Network (GAIN).

Description
This training designed for individuals who have already completed the ADOS or ADOS-2 Introductory Training (Modules 1-4) and who are interested in further practice and review. During this one-day training, two full length videotaped ADOS-2 administrations will be viewed and the scoring of these administrations will be discussed. There will also be an opportunity to review specific administration and scoring questions from participants.
For this training, Module 2 and 3 videos will be used.

This training designed for individuals who have already completed the ADOS or ADOS-2 Introductory (Modules 1-4) and Toddler trainings, who are interested in further scoring practice and review. During this half-day training, one full length videotaped ADOS-2 Toddler administration will be viewed and the scoring of this administration will be discussed. There will also be an opportunity to review specific administration and scoring questions from participants.

The University of Minnesota is offering a 2.5-day ADOS-2 Research Training for specialists in ASD interested in establishing research reliability. This training course offers detailed, advanced training for people who plan to use the ADOS-2 for research purposes. This training is necessary for use of the ADOS-2 in research. The goals of this workshop are to provide hands-on experience in administering the ADOS-2, detailed instruction and practice with coding, and information on appropriate use and interpretation in research. With guidance from an experienced ADOS-2 trainer, trainees will administer parts of the ADOS- 2 to child and adult volunteers with ASD. Detailed discussions on scoring of the ADOS-2 follow each practice administration. Trainees will be provided with videos of other ADOS-2 administrations to watch after the training and will be given instructions on next steps for achieving research reliability.
There is an option to submit post-course reliability checks within a year of the workshop for $400.00 per video.

ADI-R Research Training

The ADI-R Research Training is for specialists in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) interested in establishing research reliability. The requirements for attending ADI-R Research are to have practiced the ADI-R before coming to the training and to have read the manual. The course offers detailed, advanced training for people who plan to use the ADI-R for research purposes and is necessary for use of the ADI-R in research. The goals of this workshop are to provide hands-on experience in administering the ADI-R, detailed instruction and practice with coding, and information on appropriate use and interpretation in research. With guidance from an experienced ADI-R trainer, trainees will administer parts of the ADI-R to volunteer caregivers of people with ASD. Detailed discussion on scoring of the ADI-R follows the practice administration. Trainees will be provided video examples of ADI-R administrations to supplement the workshop and will be given instructions on next steps for achieving research reliability.
Cost: $2500.00
